Journal Description
Architectural Image Studies (AIS) (E-ISSN: 2184-8645) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing knowledge on the visual, cultural, technological, social, economic, and managerial dimensions of architecture and the built environment. The journal provides a global platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to explore how architecture is conceived, represented, experienced, and governed in diverse cultural and urban contexts. By integrating theoretical inquiry with empirical research, AIS promotes innovative and critical perspectives on architectural practice and urban development.
Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, AIS brings together research from architecture, urban studies, economics, management, heritage studies, arts, social sciences, and digital technologies. The journal recognizes architecture as both a cultural expression and an economic asset shaped by complex interactions among design processes, policy frameworks, markets, communities, and technological innovation. Through rigorous peer review and open-access dissemination, AIS ensures high academic standards while enabling unrestricted global access to contemporary research.
Focus and Scope
Architectural Image Studies focuses on the study of architectural representation, urban form, cultural heritage, sustainability, and digital innovation within the built environment. The journal publishes original research articles, theoretical analyses, visual essays, practice-based case studies, and critical reviews that examine spatial design, urban governance, environmental responsiveness, and heritage management. Special attention is given to emerging visualization methods, including digital rendering, photogrammetry, artificial intelligence–generated imagery, and immersive technologies.
In addition, AIS emphasizes interdisciplinary research that connects architectural design with economic development, social inclusion, and cultural production. The journal welcomes studies on real estate economics, infrastructure management, participatory planning, creative industries, cultural tourism, and policy development. By encouraging dialogue between scholars and practitioners across disciplines, Architectural Image Studies seeks to advance sustainable, equitable, and innovative approaches to architecture and urban development in a rapidly changing global context.
